IRVINE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Viseon, Inc., a leader in minimally invasive spine surgery visualization technologies, today announced MaxView™ international adoption, enabling state-of-the-art single-position lateral access lumbar spine surgery. While minimally invasive spine surgery offers numerous benefits to the patient, surgeon and hospital, it also presents the burden of challenging visualization of the target surgical anatomy. A new and emerging single-position lateral lumbar spine surgical technique involves the patient lying on their stomach (prone), with surgical access through their side and parallel to the floor. This patient orientation provides enhanced opportunities such as reduced procedure time, simultaneous control of the anterior and posterior spine, better management of alignment and optimization of workflow in revision cases, but also introduces visualization and ergonomic challenges to the surgeon. The Viseon MaxView™ System eliminates these challenges by projecting a high-definition, real-time image of the surgical anatomy onto a flat panel display for the surgeon and the entire operating room staff to observe.

Alfred Ogden, MD, Director of Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery, Chief Medical Officer, Neurosurgeons of New Jersey, commented, “I have adopted single-position prone lateral access surgery into my practice. The Viseon MaxView System is essential for this procedure to maximize my ability to see critical spine anatomy. I don’t believe I would perform this procedure without MaxView.”

Pedro Berjano, MD, PhD, Clinical Professor University of Milan, Italy, commented, “Since our first publication of the prone lateral technique we continue to see its advantages. Now, with Viseon MaxView, my ergonomics are improved, and the team remains engaged during surgery, what we expect. I can now see small psoas nerves that confound EMG readings that I otherwise cannot previously see clearly. I’ve been able to confirm these nerves through the combined use of MaxView and Neuromonitoring. This to me is very interesting. Furthermore, now with MaxView direct visualization of my instrument markers, I reduced my number of x-ray shots, reducing radiation exposure for the patient, me and my staff. Viseon MaxView has exceeded my expectations.”

Viseon Chief Executive Officer, Jeffrey Valko, added, “The most profound comment I’ve ever heard from a surgeon is ‘Using Viseon MaxView, I just feel better because I can see’. Enabling safer, more advanced minimally invasive spine surgery procedures to the benefit of the patient, the surgeon and the hospital is the highest honor from any innovation I’ve ever been involved with.”
