MADISON, Wis., April 18 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Third Wave Technologies Inc. today announced two appointments to the company’s senior management team.
Jorge A. Garces, Ph.D., has been appointed vice president of product and platform development. Dr. Garces joined Third Wave from Genzyme Genetics in October 2005 as executive director of clinical development. Dr. Garces served as director of molecular research and development at Genzyme Genetics, where he oversaw the technology and product development activities of laboratory staff in New York, Los Angeles, and Westborough, Mass. Before joining Genzyme, Dr. Garces worked as an associate product manager, and research and development scientist at Athena Diagnostics, and served at Proteome Inc. He earned his bachelor’s degree in biology from Brooklyn College and his doctorate in cell and molecular biology from the City University of New York. Dr. Garces completed his post-doctoral training at the University of Massachusetts Medical School.
Cindy S. Ahn has been appointed vice president and general counsel. Ms. Ahn joins Third Wave from the Kirkland & Ellis law firm, where she was a partner and key member of the team that successfully litigated Third Wave’s patent infringement suit against Stratagene Corp., which resulted in a $20.1- million award to Third Wave. Ms. Ahn joined Kirkland & Ellis in May 2000 and also represented Third Wave in the successful enforcement of its intellectual property against Eragen Biosciences. Prior to joining Kirkland & Ellis, Ms. Ahn was an attorney with the law firm of Finnegan, Henderson, Farabow, Garrett & Dunner in Washington, D.C. She was a technician at Abbott Laboratories before entering law school. Ms. Ahn earned her bachelor’s of science degree in biology at the University of Illinois and her law degree from American University’s Washington College of Law.
