Traditional silk weavers knew little when they inherited their profession that they could one day play a role in people checking on their diabetes or diagnostic labs test HIV cases. Neither did the hundreds of labs checking on our sample know that all of this could be done on cartridges -- essentially putting their labs on a chip.
