Chicago Flame -- Dr. Francis Collins, a physician and geneticist known for his leadership of the Human Genome Project, is currently the director of the National Institute of Health (NIH). He was named head of the organization by President Obama last summer. In 2009 he was awarded the National Medal of Science, the highest honor given to scientists by the U.S. government. That same year, Pope Benedict XVI appointed him to the Pontifical Academy of Sciences.
