SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Nov. 2, 2015 – Myriad Genetics, Inc. (NASDAQ: MYGN) today announced that it has launched an online and social media campaign to encourage families to talk about their health history this holiday season. The Surgeon General has designated November as Family Health History Month and Thanksgiving as Family Health History Day and Myriad’s campaign coincides with these initiatives.
The campaign urges individuals to discuss hereditary cancer with their families during holiday gatherings. Individuals are also encouraged to take a hereditary cancer quiz developed by Myriad to find out if they may be at risk of the disease. They are also encouraged to share the results with other family members and their healthcare providers. Mutations or variations in genes passed from parent to child can drastically increase the risk of cancer. In fact, certain inherited syndromes can lead to nearly a 100% chance of getting certain types of cancer. Fortunately, knowing about this risk can save lives and help physicians determine the best course of treatment for individual patients. Knowledge truly is power. In addition to the hereditary cancer quiz, an infographic with facts about hereditary cancer will appear on Myriad’s website and be promoted on our social media channels.
