Message from BIOCOM: Please Help the Life Science Community in San Diego

We at BIOCOM hope you and your loved ones are safe from harm’s way. As we all know, the burden of the past few days will linger long after the last ember is extinguished.

To support the immediate and eventual long-term needs of San Diego County, Invitrogen and BIOCOM have established two charitable funds where the life science community can contribute: the Fire Relief Biotech Immediate Response Fund and the Fire Relief Biotech Recovery Fund.

These funds will be administered by the San Diego Foundation - a local community foundation well-equipped to address the diverse needs of our region - in accordance with its existing guidelines for funding. Both funds, along with descriptions of each, can be accessed at http://www.sdfoundation.org/fire2007/.

Working through the Foundation directly ensures that all of our charitable contributions will remain in San Diego to help our colleagues, local residents and the general community recover and rebuild. Please join us in helping get our friends, neighbors, and community back on their feet in the days and months to come.

Thanks, and best wishes.

The staff at BIOCOM

Information on the fires:

The San Diego Union-Tribune‘s Web site is taking a huge amount of traffic and working intermittently. They have set up a very informative blog that has the most current information we can find: http://sosdfireblog.blogspot.com

KPBS radio, whose transmitter was knocked out, is broadcasting on FM94.9. They have a regularly updated map showing burn areas here: www.kpbs.org/firemap

All the local TV stations are covering this as well.
