Ethicon, the Blue Ash-based maker of medical tools for minimally invasive surgery, announced it has suspended sales of devices used during hysterectomies and other procedures to treat uterine fibroids because of a recent FDA warning that such equipment could spread cancer. So-called laparoscopic power morcellators are medical devices used to remove the uterus during a hysterectomy or to remove uterine fibroids (noncancerous growths) during a surgical procedure called a myomectomy. Morcellators divide tissue into pieces that can be removed through small incisions.
