Duke Clinical Research Institute To Support Clinical Trials With Vitalhealth Questlink

MINNEAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Duke Clinical Research Institute (DCRI), the world’s largest academic research organization and part of the Duke University School of Medicine, to implement VitalHealth Software’s QuestLink® to support clinical trials by allowing patients to electronically report outcomes through this cloud-based mobile-friendly tool.

“Improving the health of millions through eHealth solutions”

VitalHealth Software is a leading global provider of web-based solutions for collaborative health management established by Mayo Clinic and the Noaber Foundation. VitalHealth QuestLink is a cloud-based patient engagement solution with online survey instruments supporting patient reported outcomes and routine outcome monitoring.

“Patient reported outcomes are very important for clinical trials as trials help to shape what treatments will become accepted medical practices among physicians in the future. We are excited that DCRI has chosen our QuestLink solution to help them collect these outcomes and ease the administrative burden of data collection. Less time spent on administration means that more of the limited resources academic research organizations have can be allocated to other responsibilities,” said Les Wold, MD, VitalHealth’s Chief Medical Officer.

QuestLink implementation at DCRI has begun and is targeted to go-live in September, 2015. The implementation will be complete approximately one month from contract signing.

“Clinical trials increasingly include the important perspective of patients in the evaluation of treatment outcomes. QuestLink will make that data collection process easier for their patients as well as their staff,” said Wold, “Without QuestLink, a patient’s only option for remote monitoring was to answer questions over the phone or via paper data collection forms which meant significant redundant data entry for staff.”

Patients will have the option to answer those questions electronically at a time and place convenient for them. For staff, the entire process is automated. Based on the health system’s preferences, timelines required to keep in contact with the patient can be set and reduce administrative time for patient reported outcome data collection.

QuestLink capabilities have the flexibility needed to support clinical trials by being highly configurable and interoperable. Relevant patient information, such as demographics and medication data, is pulled from internal systems and automatically loaded into a survey for patients to complete. Current medications and other demographic information can be confirmed in the same questionnaire in addition to questions regarding the outcomes from the treatment they are receiving.
