Children with acute infective conjunctivitis don’t need antibiotics, according to a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial released today. There was no significant difference in the recovery rate between 163 children treated with chloramphenicol eye drops and 163 given placebo drops, Peter W. Rose, M.D., of the University of Oxford, and colleagues reported online in The Lancet.
