China Medical Technologies, Inc. Starts US Cancer Trial

July 16, 2007 -- China Medical Technologies (CMED) received conditional approval to begin a trial of its high intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) tumor therapy system in the US. The trial will be conducted at the University of Washington Medical Center in Seattle. In the test, the HIFU system will ablate targeted tumor tissue in the pancreas as a means to reduce pain associated with locally advanced or metastatic pancreatic cancer. The device raises the temperature in tumors to 70 degrees Celsius, with the intent of killing tumor cells immediately. More details...
