ANN ARBOR, Mich., May 31 /PRNewswire/ -- Kent Rice, neural monitoring company Biotronic’s Quality Assurance Director, has started a four-year term on the Board of the American Society of Neurophysiological Monitoring (http://www.asnm.org ). The Society is the leading organization for the field of neurophysiological assessment and monitoring. Its membership consists of neural monitoring practitioner physicians, Ph.D.'s and technicians. In his 14th year with Biotronic and as quality assurance director since 2001, Rice oversees all of Biotronic’s clinical operations and the training of company clinicians.
Currently, Rice is also an active Board member of the American Board of Neurophysiological Monitoring for a six-year term ending in 2008. ABNM is the body that credentials professionals practicing neural monitoring. The ABNM credential is available to practitioners with an advanced degree (MS, Ph.D., MD) who have been practicing for three years and who have personally monitored 300 or more surgeries and have passed written and oral examinations by the Board of ABNM.
Neural monitoring is a unique and growing field in medicine. It is relatively new, having begun less than 30 years ago. During surgery it provides essential information to the surgeon about the neural function of the patient, enabling prevention of neural injury and post-operative neurological defects.
