KEARNEY, Neb.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--SCORR Marketing, a global, full-service marketing and communications firm specializing in drug development services, published a survey in collaboration with Pharmaceutical Outsourcing magazine on trends in contract manufacturing in the pharmaceutical industry. The survey appears in the March/April issue of Pharmaceutical Outsourcing and online.
“Delivery time, scientific expertise and technological and development capabilities were more important to most buyers.”
“Contract manufacturing has seen significant growth and we knew there was a great deal of interest in this area from our clients in drug development services,” said Lea Studer, vice president of marketing communications at SCORR. “This survey provides unbiased insight into what companies are looking for in a contract manufacturing organization, as well as other information that will aid business development in this area.”
Among key findings, the survey indicated that demand for contract manufacturing services — and competition among CMOs for a share of the market — is increasing, and that last year more than 75 percent of respondents outsourced the same or more than they had in previous years. More than a quarter report growth in their outsourcing requirements.
Commenting on the survey results from the CMO perspective, Paul Josephs, senior vice president of sales, marketing and corporate development at DPT Laboratories said, “We’ve seen solid growth of more than 10 percent across the board as well as substantial growth in the generic marketplace. We expect to see these trends continue.”
“We also learned that, counter to assumptions, although price is important, it’s far from the most important issue driving outsourced manufacturing decisions,” Studer said. “Delivery time, scientific expertise and technological and development capabilities were more important to most buyers.”
