ST. LOUIS, Nov. 19 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Saint Louis University (SLU) recognized St. Louis-based Sigma-Aldrich(TM) at a reception today honoring the life science and high technology company’s recent $1 million donation to the school. The donation, the third largest in Sigma-Aldrich history, comes in the form of product inventory and lab equipment that will be used by the university’s medical school research teams.

“Sigma-Aldrich’s donation of valuable reagents, equipment and books to Saint Louis University is a generous gift from a local company that is a leader in the biomedical industry,” said Jennifer Lodge, Ph.D., associate dean for research at Saint Louis University School of Medicine. “This gift could spur new research projects that otherwise couldn’t have been started, or enhance ongoing projects within the Edward A. Doisy Research Center as well as the rest of the SLU research community.”
In addition to today’s reception, Saint Louis University will be naming the sixth floor of the new Doisy Research Center after Sigma-Aldrich. The $82 million facility will make it possible for SLU scientists to further research discoveries in five key areas: cancer, liver disease, heart/lung disease, aging and brain disease, and vaccine development for a variety of infectious diseases.

In total, Sigma-Aldrich is making $6 million in inventory donations this year to 15 institutions around the world including: Hiram College, Hiram, Ohio; Illinois Math & Science Academy, Aurora, Ill.; Lindenwood University, St. Charles, Mo.; Marquette University, Milwaukee, Wis.; Midwestern University, Downers Grove, Ill.; the St. Louis Science Center; the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, Minn.; the University of Missouri-St. Louis, the University of Wisconsin-Madison, the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee; Washington University in St. Louis; Technische Universitat Munchen, Munich, Germany; Universitat Marburg, Marburg, Germany; and Technische Universitat Braunschweig, Braunschweig, Germany.
