Hospitality House Of Charlotte Plans Expansion

CHARLOTTE, N.C., Sept. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Hospitality House of Charlotte has accepted a .449-acre parcel of land made available by Carolinas HealthCare System. The property, located at 1400 Scott Avenue, is adjacent to one of two existing local Hospitality House facilities and is expected to become the site of a new 10,000-square-foot guest house. Upon completion, Hospitality House plans to consolidate its operations into the new facility. Construction of the facility has the potential to significantly increase Hospitality House of Charlotte’s ability to provide shelter to families in medical crises. Currently, between two existing local facilities, the charity can house 30 guests. Once the new facility has been built, Hospitality House will be able to provide rooms for 45 guests. In January, Hospitality House will launch a capital campaign to support the building of the new guest house.

Hospitality House of Charlotte has been providing housing and support for out-of-town family members of patients in Charlotte hospitals for 20 years. Guests are not charged a fee; the volunteer organization depends upon contributions from foundations, corporations, churches, civic groups and individuals.

When the capital campaign launches in January it will be led by Marshall and Susan Larsen. Mr. Larsen is Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of Goodrich Corporation. Ms. Larsen serves on the Board of Directors of Hospitality House of Charlotte.

Ms. Larsen stated, “Hospitality House and its Board of Directors look forward to a successful capital campaign early next year. The city of Charlotte has proven to be a community that truly cares and is motivated to make a difference for those in need. We’re confident that our capital campaign will raise the funding necessary to accomplish our goal of increasing our impact on the growing needs of families experiencing medical crisis.”

“With Charlotte’s expanding medical facilities and advancing expertise, the number of families in need of accommodations while caring for loved ones continues to exceed our current capacity,” added Anne Shoaf, Executive Director of Hospitality House.
