Giesecke & Devrient (G&D) China, Z-Smart Utilize Valencell Technology For Smartwatch Focused On Payments And Banking Customers

RALEIGH, N.C., MUNICH and SHANGHAI, June 29, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Valencell, the leading innovator in wearable biometric data sensor technology, Giesecke & Devrient (G&D), a leading international technology provider for the financial sector, and Z-Smart, a leading wearable device research and development company in China, today announced the integration of Valencell’s PerformTek® technology in G&D’s new payments-focused smartwatch targeting the banking industry. Three large banks across China will begin providing the watch to banking customers who open new bank accounts for use with their accounts, with more banks to follow.

In addition to enabling near-field communication (NFC)-based contactless payments, the new smartwatch will enable banking customers to measure heart rate, activity tracking and calorie counting in a wearable device that can be used every day. The battery life for the smartwatch is expected to be nearly 30 days.

“We are very pleased to be partnering with Valencell, the leader in wearable biometric sensor technology, and international technology provider G&D, to bring this innovative product to banking industry customers in China,” said Wu Hao, Co-founder of Z-smart. “By choosing Valencell’s PerformTek technology, along with our expertise in power management solutions, we can be confident that the product will exceed user expectations and enable an outstanding user experience.”

Benchmark sensor systems incorporate all of Valencell’s PerformTek biometric sensor technology in pre-packaged system for immediate integration in wearables of all kinds. Benchmark sensor system provides all the patent-protected, high-performance biometric technology that customers have come to expect from Valencell, but in a pre-packaged system that accelerates time-to-market and streamlines product development for wearables. Valencell’s PerformTek sensor systems are the most accurate, robust and flexible technology available today, powering more biometric wearables on the market than any other company.

“By integrating Valencell technology into our smartwatch, we are giving our customers a multifunctional wearable device that will not only help them streamline their banking and payments tasks, but will help them track and optimize their health and fitness,” said Xiao Wei, General Manager of G&D China.

Utilizing Valencell’s technology also gives Z-Smart access to Valencell’s global ecosystem of manufacturing partners and Valencell’s Biometrics Lab, one of the most experienced biometrics labs in the world, for testing and validation of the device.

“With the exponential growth of the wearables market, we are seeing biometrics becoming standard functionality in smartwatches,” said Dr. Steven LeBoeuf, president and co-founder of Valencell. “This is another great example of how Valencell is driving innovation in biometric wearables across multiple form factors, and providing consumers with the most accurate biometric sensor technology needed to drive truly compelling user experiences in fitness and health.”

The G&D smartwatch will launch at Mobile World Congress Shanghai taking place June 29 July 1, 2016.
