Talk Radio Host Asks CytoDyn’s CEO Allen D. Allen: Do AIDS Drugs Help Spread HIV Infection?

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M., March 17 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Mike Langner, who hosts a radio talk show on New Mexico's top rated AM station KKOB, recently conducted a hard-hitting interview with Allen D. Allen, CEO of CytoDyn, Inc. . Allen was in town to give an invited talk to the New Mexico Biotechnology & Biomedical Association, and KKOB took the opportunity to interview Allen, who is often a newsmaker, on a variety of topics related to biotechnology and biomedicine.

Because CytoDyn has an AIDS drug in its pipeline, Langner asked Allen a provocative question on that topic. He asked Allen whether treatments that add years to the life of AIDS patients have the unintended consequence of giving HIV infected individuals more time to spread the infection to others.

Allen claimed it is the other way around: it is the failure to accept AIDS drugs that causes the infection to spread. There are a substantial number of people who believe that AIDS is not caused by HIV and that antiretroviral drugs such as AZT do more harm than good. A good source for contacting the people who believe this can be found at www.virusmyth.net/aids/index/azt.htm . Allen believes this denial is outrageous and irresponsible, especially since it can cause innocent children to be born with AIDS. According to the CDC, AZT, which is marketed by GlaxoSmithKline, has been shown to significantly reduce the number of children who are born with AIDS when AZT is given to pregnant women with HIV infection. For those who may be interested in hearing the interview but cannot receive the AM signal of KKOB, the interview with Allen will stream on the worldwide web Sunday, March 19, 2006 at noon Eastern time on www.770KKOB.com
