Precision BioSciences Announces First Publication of Targeted Knockout Rats Using Engineered Meganuclease Technology

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Precision BioSciences, Inc., a leader in the field of genome engineering, today announced the publication of the first genetically modified mammals using Precision’s Directed Nuclease Editor (DNE) engineered meganuclease technology. In a paper published in The FASEB Journal entitled “Generation of Rag1-knockout Immunodeficient Rats and Mice using Engineered Meganucleases,” researchers describe, for the first time, the application of DNE genome editing nucleases to generate rats with a desired gene permanently disabled or ‘knocked-out.’ “This paper demonstrates the broad applicability and exquisite precision of our DNE technology for mammalian genome engineering,” said Derek Jantz, Precision BioSciences’ Vice President of Scientific Development. “We are thrilled that our collaborators at Centre National de Recherche Scientifique and genOway were able to utilize the technology to efficiently generate an important research model.”
