Italy Launches New AIDS Vaccine Trials
Italy launched tests of an experimental new AIDS vaccine Tuesday after the United Nations estimated worldwide deaths and new cases of the disease hit record highs this year.
More than three million people died from AIDS in 2003, and plans for the new tests followed large-scale trials in Thailand of another preventative AIDS vaccine that failed a late-stage clinical trial.
