Alert Issued Over Human Rabies Vaccine; Aventis Pasteur MSD To Recall Several Batches

People who have recently been given a vaccine against rabies have been advised to seek medical advice. It follows the decision of manufacturer Aventis Pasteur MSD to recall several batches of the jab, after finding a live strain of the virus in one batch. The company says the move was precautionary and that patients are not at risk. The Department of Health said patients who received the jab after 26 February should contact their GP. According to Aventis Pasteur MSD, just one of the four batches being recalled was distributed in the UK. The batch contained 6,700 doses of rabies vaccine. The company said all the jabs had passed factory and independent tests before they had been distributed.
