ZONARE Medical Systems, Inc. Surpasses 1000th Worldwide z.one Ultrasound System Shipment

CHICAGO, Nov. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- ZONARE Medical Systems, a developer of premium ultrasound systems, announced at the Radiology Society of North America (RSNA) Annual Congress, being held November 25 - 30, 2007, it has recently shipped the company’s 1,000th Convertible Ultrasound(TM) platform to the German Cancer Research Center. The Center is one of the most respected cancer research facilities in Europe. Researchers believe ZONARE’s proprietary Zone Sonography(TM) technology will provide significant value in their ongoing research activities.

“Our work mainly involves functional examinations, particularly contrast-enhanced ultrasound and quantification of blood flow,” said Professor Stefan Delorme from the Radiology Department of the German Cancer Research Center. “In order to be able to perform certain types of scientific evaluations, we require data that extends far beyond the information that video or DICOM sources are capable of providing to us. ZONARE has really convinced us with its Zone Sonography technology and we are certain that this system will be of great value to us in our everyday work.”

Zone Sonography technology has enabled ZONARE Medical Systems to bring its unique, patented Convertible Ultrasound platform to the industry providing premium image quality and performance together with greater portability at an attractive price to value ratio compared to other ultrasound systems. Clinicians are able to convert the z.one system from a full-featured, cart-based system into a premium compact ultrasound system at the touch of a button, optimizing its versatility in a variety of clinical settings, without sacrificing image quality or performance.

Zone Sonography technology has also provided the basis for many other clinical imaging advancements such as Auto-Opt with ZST. Auto-Opt with ZST automatically adjusts sound speed based on differences in a patient’s body habitus while completely optimizing the clinical image and instantly equalizing image gain and brightness.

“ZONARE is prepared to work with us at a very challenging scientific level,” said Professor Delorme. “We were very much convinced of the value of this system immediately after it was presented to us. Due to Zone Sonography technology, we have the ability to modify the speed at which ultrasound reflects off of tissue on a customized basis. This enables us to assess the size of structures more reliably on the one hand, yet achieve much higher image quality. Although this is of great benefit to all types of diagnostics, it is especially beneficial in diagnosing cancer.”

The z.one system’s Zone Sonography software-based architecture allows its performance to continue to improve as greater processing power becomes available. System upgrades can be downloaded via the internet, allowing for fast, convenient advances in clinical capabilities, enabling clinicians to cost-effectively maintain a state of the art premium ultrasound system.

Based in Heidelberg, Germany, The German Cancer Research Center is a member of the Helmholtz Association, the largest scientific organization in Germany. This is the first z.one system installation for this renowned research center.

“As the sales and shipments of our unique, patented Convertible Ultrasound platform have continued to increase, we have been privileged to become a partner with hundreds of healthcare providers around the world,” said Donald Southard, president and CEO for ZONARE. “We believe our mutual goal to provide excellence in patient care will extend these partnerships well into the future. With Zone Sonography technology as the basis, we look forward to developing new advances in ultrasound, bringing both clinical and economic value to our customers.”

About the German Cancer Research Center

The German Cancer Research Center is a foundation under public law and a member of the Helmholtz Association of National Research Centers (Helmholtz-Gemeinschaft Deutscher Forschungszentren). As a national research center it is financed by the Federal German Government and the State of Baden-Wuerttemberg. The goal of the Center is to systematically investigate the mechanisms of cancer development and to identify cancer risk factors. The results of this basic research are expected to be developed into new approaches in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of cancer. For further information, visit http://www.dkfz.de.
