18 December 2013 – World Scientific has launched its latest journal, TECHNOLOGY, which features the development of cutting-edge new technologies in a broad array of emerging fields of science and engineering
With a distinguished editorial team (of over 100 members from the top universities in the world) led by Professor Martin Yarmush, a Distinguished Professor of Biomedical Engineering at Rutgers University, and Professor Mehmet Toner from Harvard Medical School, this journal aims to provide quality content on applied science with a focus on both innovation and application to daily lives. It will cover diverse disciplines such as health and life science, energy and environment, advanced materials, technology-based manufacturing, information science and technology, and marine and transportations technologies.
Commenting on the conception of the journal, the editors-in-chief said, “It was driven by the disappointment and frustration of many engineers and applied scientists who felt that their work was given short shrift by the scientific community. There seems to be a lack of appreciation of the role that new technology plays in the progress of science.” They added, “The hard truth is that when journals become successful they often become clubs that exclude outsiders. We are dedicated to maintaining the inclusivity and openness of the journal so that it serves quality work and not a set of addresses or a select group of individuals of predetermined worth.”
Mr Max Phua, Executive Director of World Scientific said, “TECHNOLOGY is one of the most important and definitive new journals in our publishing programme and I am certain that it will become a haven for top applied scientific ideas across various fields.”
The editors plan to include an entrepreneurial slant to the approach of evaluating early challenges and potential roadblocks that these new technologies will face in terms of feasibility, implementation, economic considerations, and political and social acceptance.
