CHANGZHOU, China, Dec. 11 /Xinhua-PRNewswire/ -- US-based Biomet Inc., one of three largest medical devices manufacturers in the world, on the 11th signed an agreement with the Changzhou National Hi-Tech District, eastern China's Jiangsu province, Biomet has decided to make an investment of US$15 million in the Changzhou Export Processing Zone mainly for production of orthopaedic implants and medical devices.
BIOMET, established in Warsaw, Indiana in 1977, is a listed medical device company well-known in the world, and products made by it and its subsidiary companies have been sold in more than 100 countries in the world with yearly sales of more than US$2 billion. Products designed, manufactured and sold by BIOMET and its subsidiaries are used extensively in clinical and non-clinical medical treatment by musculoskeletal experts and the products mainly include reconstructing and fixing devices, electric stimulators for growth of bones, supporting and plastic devices, devices for operation rooms, ordinary surgical tools, joint replicas, spinal implants, cement agents for bones, bone substitutes, implants for plastic operation of jaws on craniums, implants for reconstructing teeth and related equipment.
Richard Borror, Vice President of Manufacturing for Biomet, indicated at the signing ceremony that idea of the team from the Changzhou Hi-Tech District for inviting foreign investors was excellent; the investment environment there was superb and his company would build its establishment in Changzhou into its medical device-manufacturing center in China.
Biomet had investigated many cities in Romania, Turkey and China successively since last year and finally selected the Changzhou Hi-Tech District as its export-oriented production base in the Asia-Pacific Region. Han Jiuyun, Vice Mayor of Changzhou municipal government, noted in his speech that development of the medical industry was given priority in Changzhou's ''Eleventh Five-Year Plan,'' and Changzhou would continue to improve its excellent platform for receiving transferred international industrial capital so as to provide Chinese and foreign businessmen with even better, faster and more effective services.
