Two Amedica Corporation, US Spine Implant Products Receive Best New Technology Awards from Orthopedics This Week

SALT LAKE CITY, Oct. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Orthopedics This Week, a leading industry publication, has honored Amedica®/US Spine® with two Crystal Awards for Best New Technology for Spine Care in 2010.

Amedica/US Spine, a spinal and orthopaedic implant and instrument manufacturer focused on unique silicon nitride (SiN) ceramic technologies, received recognition in the Best New Technology in Biomaterials category for its Valeo® AL Lumbar Spacer and Best New Technology in Cervical Care category for its Valeo® C Spinal Spacer. Judges, composed of a distinguished panel of surgeons and clinical colleagues, selected both products on the basis of their originality, uniqueness and clinical relevance (including the question, “Would the judges use the product themselves?”) and the likelihood of significantly improving patient outcomes.

Both the Valeo AL Lumbar Intervertebral Spacer and the Valeo C cervical Intervertebral Spacer are made from silicon nitride, a proven material in high performance applications such as jet engines and race cars, where strength, durability and reliability are crucial. Amedica’s proprietary medical-grade implants are manufactured under exceptionally precise conditions at the molecular, micro and macro levels to create silicon nitride implants that are robust, fracture tough, hydrophilic with a Bioactive surface® and conducive to bony apposition.

Amedica/US Spine is the only company in the world with the highly proprietary technology and state-of-the-art facility to design and produce medical-grade silicon nitride technology that’s incorporated into the patented Valeo Line. Each implant is 100-percent inspected to ensure the highest quality, and is shipped individually packaged and operating-room ready.

“This is a significant honor and a testimony to Amedica’s silicon nitride implants’ role as the next generation technology across all market segments, including spinal implants, reconstructive surgery and extremity applications,” said Ben Shappley, Chief Executive Officer, President and Director of Amedica/US Spine. “We will continue to develop innovations across our product lines that focus on cost-effective patient care with enhanced outcomes.”

The company received the awards during Orthopedics This Week’s Spine Technology Awards Gala Banquet on Oct. 4 in Orlando, Fla.
