CHAMPS Oncology Vice President Toni Hare, RHIT, CTR, announced she will retire on May 3, 2019 after more than 29 years of dedicated service to CHAMPS Oncology, her valued employees and clients across the country.
CLEVELAND, March 7, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- CHAMPS Oncology Vice President Toni Hare, RHIT, CTR, announced today she will retire on May 3, 2019 after more than 29 years of dedicated service to CHAMPS Oncology, her valued employees and clients across the country. During her professional career, Hare has given more than 40 years of expertise to the cancer registry industry.
“I can’t even begin to describe the positive impact this profession and my CHAMPS Oncology family has had on my life,” said Hare. “Retiring from my life-long passion to this industry, our team and cancer programs is truly bittersweet. I will miss every moment but I am thrilled for the next generation of CHAMPS Oncology leaders to make a difference.”
In preparation for this transition, CHAMPS Oncology has appointed current Associate Vice President Karen Schmidt, CTR, as the new vice president. Over the past 17 years, Schmidt’s passion for this industry has grown tremendously while working side-by-side with Hare. She has also been instrumental in the successful development of CHAMPS Oncology and its cloud-based analytics system, insight2oncology®.
“Over the years, Karen has been very closely involved with making integral business decisions, contributing to the cancer registry industry as well as providing cancer program expertise to our clients,” said Hare. “I am more than confident Karen is the ideal choice to lead CHAMPS Oncology and our cancer registry experts to even greater success. And most importantly, serve our valued clients and make a difference in their cancer care initiatives.”
Schmidt is working closely with Hare and the entire CHAMPS Oncology team to ensure a smooth transition upon my retirement. Hare will focus on a consulting role in order to ensure Schmidt and CHAMPS’ team of seasoned CTRs are prepared for future success.

As a certified tumor registrar herself, Schmidt will be working closely with CHAMPS Oncology’s entire team to ensure Hare’s legacy of promoting the profession, improving the quality of the data and utilizing the cancer registry information lives on and that CHAMPS Oncology’s mission thrives for years to come.
Schmidt most recently served as the associate vice president of CHAMPS Oncology. Previously, she held senior leadership positions in HR and communications. Schmidt holds a Bachelor of Science in Psychology, as well as an associate’s degree in Cancer Information Management.
