SynDaver Creates Global Business Unit, Names VP of Global Government Business Development

SynDaver recently announced the creation of the new Global Government Business Unit.

TAMPA, Fla. – SynDaver, a medical technology manufacturing company focused on the creation of high-fidelity synthetic humans for medical device development and surgical training, recently announced the creation of the new Global Government Business Unit.

The unit will have dedicated engineering, sales and support staff, and will be responsible for development of new products via response to government medical, military and training proposals. The group will work directly with government organizations to develop new business and also collaborate with industry partners that have existing government contracts where appropriate. SynDaver will manufacture and commercialize every product that is developed.

This new unit will be led by Mark Owens, who will serve as Vice President of Global Government Business Development for SynDaver. Owens most recently led the sales team and was largely responsible for the growth of the SynDaver brand in the civilian market.

In this new role, Owens will lead the expansion of global government business across the company’s portfolio and will be responsible for all government business around the globe.

“The creation of our new global business unit will allow SynDaver to focus a massive amount of effort on military product development, where we have historically not been present,” said Dr. Christopher Sakezles, founder of SynDaver. “Mark’s time at SynDaver has been transformative for the company and much of our success can be attributed to his dedication and expertise. I am confident in his leadership and expect truly great things to come from this new venture.”

In September of 2015, SynDaver hired Owens as the Vice President of Global Sales and since then he has been the only sales executive within the company. SynDaver experienced double digit growth in those years, and based on his groundwork the company is rapidly expanding its sales force both domestically and internationally.

Owens brings over 20 years of sales management experience within the pharmaceutical and medical device industry including Pfizer, Merck and Baxter Healthcare. Prior to joining SynDaver, he worked in numerous sales leadership roles with top companies in the medical simulation and training industry. Most notably, he was the vice president of global healthcare sales at CAE Healthcare, where he provided strategic leadership for their North American sales operations prior to the acquisition of METI (Medical Education Technologies, Inc.).

Previously, Owens was the director of government sales for Laerdal Medical, the largest healthcare simulation company in the world. His role included business development to support the growth of the overall Laerdal portfolio in the Medical Modeling and Simulation Industry. His combined military and civilian experience extends over 25 years in the training and simulation environment.

Owens holds a Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering from Auburn University as well as a Master of Science from the Command and General Staff College of the U.S. Army. Owens recently retired as an Army Lieutenant Colonel after 31 years of service where he oversaw the training of over 60,000 soldiers utilizing Battle Command Staff Training simulation systems both with the Active Army and the Army Reserves.
