Renowned Psychologist and Best-Selling Author Adam Grant Joins BetterUp Science Board

Grant to Headline SHIFT, BetterUp’s Conference on the Science Behind Human Capital Transformation

SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- BetterUp, the first digital platform to bring personalized development through one-to-one coaching for employees at all levels of a company, announced today that Adam Grant, recognized as one of the world’s 10 most influential thinkers, has joined BetterUp’s Science Board.

As a Science Board member, Grant will help inform and drive cutting-edge research that can be applied to new coaching methodologies and techniques to help employees bring their whole selves to work and employers to drive greater business outcomes.

An organizational psychologist, top-rated Wharton professor and author of three New York Times best sellers, Grant has dedicated his career to helping others succeed, which is core to BetterUp’s mission. Through evidence-based research, BetterUp strives to better understand the inner lives of workers and craft coaching interventions to help them flourish as humans, thus as workers, to the benefit of themselves, employers and society at large.

“We are honored to have Adam join our Science Board as we work together to crack the code on what enables people to bring their best selves to work,” says Alexi Robichaux, BetterUp CEO and Co-Founder. “Adam’s focus on motivation and meaning, and how people can live more generous and creative lives, will provide insight and inspiration into what we can and should learn to help workers reach their full potential, and to design the workplace of the future.”

Grant has pioneered groundbreaking research on such things as generosity, increasing performance and reducing burnout, and championing new ideas and organizational change. In his book, “Give and Take: Why Helping Others Drives Our Success,” Grant reveals that the most meaningful way to succeed is to help others succeed. In “Option B: Facing Adversity, Building Resilience, and Finding Joy,” Grant and co-author Sheryl Sandberg reveal how to build resilience and move forward after life’s inevitable setbacks.

“Everyone needs a coach to improve at work, but too few leaders and employees have access to them,” says Adam Grant. “BetterUp is here to solve that problem, and I’m thrilled to join their effort to help people build on strengths, overcome weaknesses, and reach their potential in organizations.”

Grant joins additional leaders in behavioral psychology, anthropology, design thinking and executive coaching, including Professor Martin E.P. Seligman, the founder of positive psychology.

Grant will also headline BetterUp’s annual SHIFT conference exploring the importance of investing in people to drive individual and organizational transformation. Set at the stunning Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in Philadelphia, SHIFT takes place October 22-24. It will bring together leading psychologists, academics and thought leaders to showcase the latest research and explore ways for all organizations to unleash the full potential of their workers.
