Researchers have both ability to measure a wide dynamic range of miRNA activity in a vast number of cell types and the option to create a stable cell line from one genetic construct for further research. More specifically, pmirGLO uses optimized firefly luciferase gene as the readout for activity, while also offering a Renilla luciferase/neomycin resistance gene for data normalization.
