PLANO, Texas, April 1 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Perot Systems Corporation today announced the appointment of John Hummel as the new Chief Technology Officer for its global Healthcare unit. Mr. Hummel is a nationally recognized chief information officer who will be instrumental in creating and deploying innovative solutions on behalf of Perot Systems’ Healthcare clients around the world.

Hummel brings more than 30 years of information systems and Healthcare management experience to Perot Systems. Most recently, he served as CIO of the California Prison Healthcare Receivership, one of the largest prison systems in the world. While serving in that role, he was responsible for building a state of the art clinical information system to manage inmates’ medical, dental and mental healthcare data. Previously, John was CIO for Sutter Health, one of the largest non-profit integrated healthcare systems in the U.S.
Recognized as one of Computerworld’s Premier 100 IT Leaders as well as Information Weekly’s Top 10 IT leaders, Hummel has long been a pioneer in the Healthcare IT industry. He has served in key positions with the Certification Commission for Healthcare Information Technology (CCHIT), at CalRHIO (which he helped found), for Microsoft’s Healthcare Users Group, and the National Alliance for Health Information Technology (NaHIT). Hummel has also been very active in the creation of Healthcare Information Technology legislation at both the State and National level.
