The Occupational Safety and Health Administration has proposed a fine of $184,500 for a Lake Forest-based hospital products manufacturer for alleged safety violations connected to the death of a worker in the company’s North Chicago plant in July.OSHA issued Hospira Inc., a spinoff of Abbott Laboratories, one “serious” citation and one more severe “willful” citation after the death of a maintenance worker who was found “unresponsive” inside a freeze-dryer.OSHA would not release the man’s name. The citations specifically alleged that Hospira failed to provide the correct worker training, among other problems.Hospira “respectfully” disagrees with OSHA’s characterization of an alleged “willful” violation, said Hospira spokeswoman Tareta Adams. The company plans to meet with OSHA and will appeal, if necessary, she said.Hospira has 15 working days to appeal before an independent commission.
