Move To Ban Lesbians From Test-Tube Baby Treatment In Australia

A drive to ban lesbians and single women from some fertilization treatments has been revived in Australia as the conservative government takes control of the senate, a report said at the weekend. A similar move was rejected by opposition parties four years ago, but is seen as having more chance after Prime Minister John Howard’s ruling coalition on Friday became the first government in a quarter of a century to control both houses of parliament.Ruling Liberal Party Senator Guy Barnett said he had written to Howard urging that legislation to ban the government’s Medicare-funded IVF treatment for lesbians and single women should be resurrected.
