Employees coast-to-coast will give back to their communities on October 12

WHIPPANY, N.J., Oct. 3, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Bayer U.S. employees will once again roll up their sleeves and volunteer at local organizations as part of the company’s 2nd Annual Bayer Community Service Day. Employees from New Jersey to California will spend Friday, October 12, working on projects such as landscaping dog trails, cleaning up local parks or creating bracelets and blankets for the Military and Veterans of the United States. Others will help the Girl Scouts clean up camp properties to give them the opportunity for more outdoor experiences.

While all of the activities may differ, the focus is around the same theme of people, plants and pets. This theme highlights Bayer’s longstanding commitment as a research-based Life Sciences company that helps advance and improve the quality of life.

“No matter which project they choose, our employees will spend the day giving back and contributing in a hands-on and meaningful way,” said Phil Blake, president of Bayer U.S. “It’s our way of continuing our commitment and appreciation to the local communities that have been a part of us for so many years.”

Bayer U.S. has long been dedicated to fostering a culture of corporate volunteerism and community outreach. For example, every U.S. employee receives the equivalent of two paid days off from work annually for personal or company-organized volunteer activities that take place during business hours. Last year, Bayer broadened its volunteer program to include a company-wide community service day.

“We’re excited to advance Bayer’s commitment of volunteerism with our annual Community Service Day,” said Ray Kerins, senior vice president of corporate affairs for Bayer. “This day gives our employees the opportunity to feel good about what they do in the communities all throughout the United States where they live and work.”

On October 12, employees will gather to tackle projects at an off-site community location or on-site at a Bayer facility. Each project will range from teams of eight to more than 130 volunteers. All on-site activities will help benefit an organization or community that is in need.

Employee volunteers are either residence-based or work at Bayer facilities located in Northern New Jersey (Morristown and Whippany); in Washington, D.C.; in the Greater Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania area (Indianola, O’Hara, Saxonburg, and Pittsburgh-Robinson); in North Carolina (Raleigh-Durham); in Tennessee (Cleveland); in the Greater Kansas City area (Kansas City and Shawnee); in Minnesota (Shakopee and Minneapolis); in Indiana (Edison Lakes) and in Northern California (Berkeley/San Francisco and West Sacramento).

“It is such an honor and privilege to work alongside the Bayer employee team. The enthusiasm, creativity and service-centered spirit are exceptional. There isn’t a project the team won’t work to tackle,” said Joey Wheeler, CEO for Girl Scouts of NE Kansas and NW Missouri. “We rely on volunteers to help us maintain our camp properties to be able to deliver outdoor adventures for girls. The Bayer Community Service Day provides an opportunity to tackle some of our biggest needs. Bayer is a leader when it comes to serving the community and we are so grateful they have chosen Girl Scouts to give their time and talents.”
