Mimosa Acoustics, Inc. Announces Portable, Touch-Screen, Handheld Hearing Screener

CHAMPAIGN, Ill., March 26, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Hearing-screening clinicians looking for a convenient way to effectively test the middle and inner ear will be pleased to hear about Mimosa Acoustics' OtoStat, a portable, touch-screen, handheld hearing screener. Mimosa Acoustics will be demonstrating OtoStat this week in Boston, MA at the American Academy of Audiology's annual conference, AudiologyNOW!. OtoStat is available for pre-order now with delivery beginning on July 1st. Additional information is available at mimosaacoustics.com/otostat.

OtoStat maintains the highest degree of scientific integrity and allows clinicians to test the middle and inner ear with a single probe fit. OtoStat's intuitive, user-friendly design simplifies the diagnostic process. The display indicates normative regions, providing insight into test results, and alerts users to poor probe fits and high noise. OtoStat also extends the test frequency range of wideband immittance up to 6,000 Hz, offering an unprecedented and holistic view of conductive disorders. By combining wideband immittance (MEPA) modules to assess middle-ear function with DPOAE modules to assess inner-ear function, OtoStat can help differentially diagnose sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL) from conductive disorders, thus reducing the rate of SNHL false positives. OtoStat provides an extended picture of conductive loss due to otitis media effusion (OME) and indicates the severity of effusion so that patients can be correctly treated. OtoStat is safe and comfortable for patients including newborns, infants, children, and adults. A deep seal in the ear canal is not required, nor does it use pneumatic pressure, which can startle infants and children. OtoStat does not necessitate a sound-proof booth; it uses artifact rejection to remove background noise typical of hospitals and clinics. No annual calibration is required, reducing costs and equipment downtime. Clinics and hospitals using OtoStat can bill using DP screening and immittance codes. OtoStat can be purchased with the DPOAE module only, the MEPA module only, or both the DPOAE and MEPA modules combined.

"OtoStat provides clinicians a more precise assessment of hearing function, allowing a more reliable diagnosis while ensuring patient comfort," said Mimosa Acoustics' President, Dr. Patricia Jeng.
