Next month, Merck KGaA will break ground on its new $108 million Shanghai manufacturing plant, which will be the company’s second largest manufacturing facility anywhere in the world. Construction will be complete in 2016 and commercial production will begin the following year. Merck positioned the investment as symbolic of its commitment to the China market. The plant was originally announced in November 2013.
