Stoke-on-Trent (UK), 20 April 2015 – Lucideon, the international materials technology company, has published a new white paper, ‘The Role of Controlled Release Fertilisers in Sustainable Crop Growth’.
The white paper discusses the advances being made in controlled release fertiliser technology and the pressures of global food demand that drive their design. Written by Ian Campbell, Project Leader at Lucideon, the paper explores the different techniques used to control the release of nutrients in fertilisers and how new technologies are emerging to offer even more robust solutions.
With expertise in glass and ceramics, Lucideon’s experts have developed a novel inorganic controlled release technology (iCRT) for the controlled delivery of active products with a very high level of predictability. The particulate nature of the technology means there is no need for an external coating and the controlled release is not prevented if the carrier is broken, two big advantages over other controlled release fertilisers.
Ian Campbell said:
“Controlled release fertilisers offer significant advantages over conventional fertilisers in terms of nutrient delivery. They allow plants to take up more of the nutrients they contain, reduce run off to the surrounding environments, can maintain delivery for long periods and provide tailored compositions without environmental residues.
“With iCRT technology we see another step forward with controlled release fertilisers. The release mechanisms involved offer even greater predictability and control than other methods on the market”.
Lucideon’s iCRT technology can be loaded with various different actives for controlled release solutions. Lucideon is also working on projects for the controlled release of drugs with abuse-deterrent applications.
