US pharma and personal products major, Johnson & Johnson is seeking the Maharashtra government's intervention to revoke the suspension of the cosmetic licence of its Mulund plant imposed by the state Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The Maharashtra FDA revoked the healthcare giant's licence after investigation revealed that the company sterilised 15 batches of baby talcum power with ethylene oxide in 2007. The process is illegal as the ethylene oxide used was found to be an irritant for babies by the USFDA, reports CNBC-TV18's Farah Bookwala. Johnson & Johnson, in its formal appeal to the minister of state for food and drug administration, has pleaded the government to reconsider its decision and revoke the suspension of the licence to manufacture cosmetics at its plant in Mulund.
