Lieutenant Governor Tina Smith to Open Gathering of Thousands of Medtech Professionals
MINNEAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--LifeScience Alley and Medical Design & Manufacturing (MD&M) Minneapolis announce today that Governor Mark Dayton has issued a State of Minnesota Proclamation designating November 2-6, 2015, as Minnesota MedTech Week. The proclamation serves as recognition of the unique contributions and significance of Minnesota’s “Medical Alley” region, an area globally renowned for innovation in medical technology and health care delivery. The focal point of the week’s activities will be Minnesota Medtech Week, a global medical and health technology event produced in partnership by LifeScience Alley and UBM Canon’s MD&M Minneapolis.
“We are thrilled to be hosting the Lieutenant Governor and partnering with LifeScience Alley this year, and look forward to offering unparalleled access to thought leadership, new technologies and peer-to-peer networking opportunities.”
On Wednesday, November 4, Minnesota Lieutenant Governor Tina Smith will officially open the Minnesota Medtech Week expo hall, which will be showcasing thousands of local and national companies dedicated to the design and production of cutting-edge medical technologies. More than 5,000 people from around the world are expected to be present at the Minneapolis Convention Center, making it the largest gathering of medtech professionals in the Midwest.
“Minnesota medical technology companies are among the most inventive in the world – with patent filing rates that beat competitors from around the world,” said Lt. Governor Tina Smith. “Not only are these firms making life better for patients, they also are supporting thousands of high-quality Minnesota jobs.”
Minnesota’s Medical Alley is the most densely concentrated cluster of medical technology in the United States, directly employing more than 35,000 people, with a diverse supplier and supporting services community employing many thousands more. Home to headquarters or major operations for 3M, Boston Scientific, Medtronic, St. Jude Medical and hundreds of other health innovation companies, the Medical Alley region has been memorialized in the “Places of Invention” exhibit at the Smithsonian National Museum of American History.
“LifeScience Alley is honored to showcase the best and brightest of one of our state’s most impactful industries to the Lieutenant Governor,” stated Shaye Mandle, president and CEO of LifeScience Alley. “We thank the Governor and Lieutenant Governor for their recognition of the importance of medical innovation and ongoing support of Minnesota’s Medical Alley region.”
“For more than 20 years, the strength of Minnesota’s medtech industries has fueled the success of MD&M Minneapolis,” said Stephen Corrick, senior vice president of UBM Canon. “We are thrilled to be hosting the Lieutenant Governor and partnering with LifeScience Alley this year, and look forward to offering unparalleled access to thought leadership, new technologies and peer-to-peer networking opportunities.”
