Goldfinch Bio, a biotechnology company focused on discovering and developing precision medicines for the treatment of genetically-informed kidney diseases, today announced that five abstracts were selected for presentation at the American Society of Nephrology (ASN) Kidney Week 2018 Conference being held October 23-28, 2018 in San Diego.

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Goldfinch Bio, a biotechnology company focused on discovering and developing precision medicines for the treatment of genetically-informed kidney diseases, today announced that five abstracts were selected for presentation at the American Society of Nephrology (ASN) Kidney Week 2018 Conference being held October 23-28, 2018 in San Diego. The abstracts include preclinical data related to Goldfinch Bio’s lead drug development candidate, GFB-887, a selective inhibitor of transient receptor potential canonical 5 (TRPC5), as well as data from the company’s Kidney Genome Atlas demonstrating the identification of novel pathways and targets for the treatment of kidney diseases.

“We are delighted that such a comprehensive representation of Goldfinch’s research has been selected for presentation at Kidney Week 2018 and are particularly looking forward to sharing our data about TRPC5 therapeutic mechanisms and the broad potential of our Kidney Genome Atlas,” said Anthony Johnson, M.D., President and Chief Executive Officer of Goldfinch Bio.

About TRPC5
TRPC5 is a calcium-permeable cation channel that has been implicated in the pathogenesis of FSGS by triggering a Rac1-TRPC5 disease pathway. Recent evidence has demonstrated that TRPC5 and Rac1, a critical regulator of cellular motility, form a vicious cycle that drives pathogenic remodeling of the actin cytoskeleton in podocytes. This causes podocyte loss and breach of the filtration barrier, which leads to proteinuria, the hallmark of progressive kidney diseases such as FSGS. Inhibition of TRPC5 offers a potential point of therapeutic intervention to halt progression of FSGS to kidney failure1. TRPC5 represents a target for therapeutic intervention to halt progression of FSGS to kidney failure.
