Deep vein thrombosis: An overview

Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) is the formation of blood clot in a vein deep in the body. Most of the deep vein clots occur in the legs. It can cause pain and redness in the legs and swelling in the lower leg, ankle, and foot. It is a part of venous thromboembolism (VTE), in which the blood clots formed in the deep veins of the leg move to the lungs and block a blood vessel.
