Carotid Stents Cost-Effective in High-Risk Patients, Mid America Heart Institute Study

MedPageToday -- Carotid artery stenting is cost-effective compared with endarterectomy, at least in patients at high risk if they undergo surgery, researchers reported. The initial cost of stenting is higher but it’s offset by shorter hospital stays and lower doctors’ fees, according to David Cohen, MD, of Saint Luke’s Mid America Heart and Vascular Institute in Kansas City, Mo., and colleagues.
