SAN DIEGO, April 12 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- CareFusion (NYSE:CFN - News), a leading, global medical device company, today announced the launch of EnView™, an innovative device used to hold and maneuver an endoscope allowing surgeons a clear and stable view of the anatomy during laparoscopic surgery.
It is estimated that there are more than 6 million laparoscopic procedures annually worldwide and in 95 percent of them a surgical assistant now holds the camera up to several hours. The CareFusion EnView provides camera stability and helps eliminate challenges related to manually holding endoscopes, such as fatigue, hand tremors and miscommunication.
The device accommodates 5mm and 10mm endoscopes and integrates with a hospital’s existing visualization equipment. Its clamping system provides flexibility of placement with little or no interference with other working ports and its one-handed endoscope removal allows for easy cleaning. The EnView uses hydraulic technology and operates without the need for electricity or software.
“Nearly all laparoscopic surgeries currently require a handheld camera,” said David Schlotterbeck, chairman and CEO of CareFusion. “By eliminating the need for a person to hold the camera during surgery, the EnView improves surgeon workflow and potentially reduces procedure time, both helping to lower the cost of health care.”
CareFusion EnView is part of the CareFusion line of minimally invasive surgical products which include V. Mueller® and Snowden-Pencer® surgical instruments.
