CAMBRIDGE, Mass. & SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 7, 2005--Biogen Idec (NASDAQ: BIIB) announced today that William H. Rastetter, Ph.D., will retire as Executive Chairman of the company effective at the end of the year. Bruce Ross, presently chairman of the company’s compensation committee, will become non-executive chairman of the Board of Directors effective January 1, 2006. James C. Mullen will continue as President and Chief Executive Officer of Biogen Idec.
