WASHINGTON, Sept. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- The Alliance for Aging Research, a non-for-profit agency dedicated to advancing aging research, has announced today that internationally renowned scientist, Dr. Woo-Suk Hwang, will be the recipient of its “Indispensable Person in Health” award for 2005. Dr. Hwang will be recognized for his indispensable contributions in the field of stem cell research at Seoul National University. The award will be presented at the Alliance for Aging Research’s 12th Annual Awards Dinner on September 13, 2005.
The Indispensable Person in Health Award goes each year to a leader or researcher who shares the Alliance’s vision for improving the health and lives of the elderly by investing in medical research. Dr. Hwang’s breakthrough research with embryonic stem cells has advanced the field of regenerative medicine, furthering the importance of this research and the value it has for suffering patients in the U.S. and internationally. Additionally, Senator Tom Harkin (D-IA) will be recognized with the Claude Pepper Award for Advancing Healthy Aging through Research, thanks to the support of the Claude Pepper Foundation, and Senator Gordon Smith (R-OR) will be recognized with the Connie Mack Award for Advancing Healthy Aging.
