The University of California Regents agreed July 21 to settle two lawsuits alleging that a UCLA spine surgeon failed to disclose his conflicts of interest with a medical technology company before using the company’s products in surgeries.
Plaintiffs Jerome Lew and Ralph Weiss sued the UC regents, the medical technology company Medtronic and UCLA’s Doctor Jeffrey Wang, alleging Wang’s conflicts of interest with Medtronic. The UC regents agreed to pay settlements of $4.2 million to Lew and $4.25 million to Weiss, which were approved in separate Los Angeles County Superior Court cases.
