Summit Medical, Inc. Announces Launch Of FDA Cleared Jaw Fracture Device Minne Ties Agile MMF

ST. PAUL, Minn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Summit Medical, Inc. entered into the cranio-maxillofacial space on Monday, June 5 with the launch of its new, FDA cleared maxilla-mandibular fixation (MMF) device, Minne Ties® Agile MMF. The first-of-its-kind, non-invasive product was developed in partnership with Dr. Alan Johnson and the University of Minnesota to be a safe, simple and efficient option for use in jaw fracture management.

“It’s extremely exciting to be able to offer a new medical device that has such a profound impact on the patient experience, surgeon safety and improvements in hospital efficiencies”

Unlike other MMF systems on the market, Minne Ties uses a technique that eliminates the use of wire and screws, which therefore minimizes the risk of wire stick injuries to the surgeon and decreases patient discomfort.

“It’s extremely exciting to be able to offer a new medical device that has such a profound impact on the patient experience, surgeon safety and improvements in hospital efficiencies,” said Kevin McIntosh, president of Summit Medical, Inc. “We are more than pleased with the reception of Minne Ties as it is being trialed across the country.”

Minne Ties Agile MMF consists of self-locking, medical grade sutures that are applied through the interdental space to provide a secure bite and achieve MMF. The suture design resembles a zip tie and features a smooth clasp head on one end and a stainless steel blunt tip introducer on the other. Minne Ties are quick and easy to apply and mimic the familiar application technique of embrasure wiring, making it an easy product to transition to. Minne Ties can be applied in the operating room or in a doctor’s office, which allows for more freedom and potential savings for health care facilities.
