DENVER--(BUSINESS WIRE)--On 8 June, Sensium Healthcare will exhibit for the first time at the AAMI Conference in Denver, showcasing its wireless vital signs monitoring device, SensiumVitals®.
“Our trials show that the SensiumVitals® system delivers its promise of early detection of patient deterioration. By enabling earlier interventions, the length of hospital stays is reduced and important cost savings are delivered to healthcare providers.”
The ultra-low power wireless patch is a vital signs monitoring and alert system, which allows medical staff to react quickly to sudden patient deterioration - improving patient safety and reducing healthcare costs. The system also allows for complete mobility, improving patient outcomes.
The patch monitors heart rate, respiration and temperature. Measurements are taken every two minutes and are sent wirelessly to the hospital’s IT systems. If readings exceed pre-set thresholds, notifications are sent to nurses on their handheld devices, enabling them to take immediate action.
The system was the first of its kind to win FDA 510(k) clearance in the US. It is CE marked in Europe and is attracting significant interest from hospitals across the globe.
SensiumVitals® has been piloted in the UK and the US – including St Mary’s Hospital in London, part of Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, and in a six-month trial at the Saint John’s Health Center in Los Angeles.
In the US pilot, concluded in 2013, SensiumVitals® provided early detection of deterioration in 12 per cent of the 168 patients who took part. On average, these patients saw hospital stays reduced by four days.
Dr Ian Jackson, Medical Advisor to Sensium Healthcare, Chief Clinical Officer for York Teaching Hospital and President of the International Association for Ambulatory Surgery said: “Early detection of patient deterioration is vital to improving patient safety and avoiding preventable deaths. Routine observations are typically undertaken by staff every four to eight hours, but deterioration can - and does - occur between these rounds.”
Sensium Healthcare CEO Anthony Sethill said: “Our trials show that the SensiumVitals® system delivers its promise of early detection of patient deterioration. By enabling earlier interventions, the length of hospital stays is reduced and important cost savings are delivered to healthcare providers.”
