Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital Workers Postpone Union Election, Cite Illegal Behavior By Management

SANTA ROSA, Calif., Jan. 31 /PRNewswire/ -- On Monday, Jan. 31st, Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital workers made the decision to postpone their union election, originally scheduled for Feb. 2nd and 3rd, citing illegal tactics by Hospital management that created a threatening and coercive environment and made a fair union election impossible. Over the past month, countless community leaders, including United Farm Workers Co-Founder Dolores Huerta and retired state assemblymember Pat Wiggins, joined hospital employees in requesting that St. Joseph Health System, the corporation that owns and runs Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital, provide an environment that enables employees to make a decision on unionization without interference. Management rebuffed all efforts to provide for a fair election process.

When employees filed for their union election in mid-December, management began conducting an anti-union campaign based on fear and intimidation, impugning the mission and motives of the union, and holding mandatory group and individual anti-union meetings.

Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital workers, including licensed vocational nurses, certified nursing assistants, respiratory therapists, operating room technicians, pharmacy technicians, clerks, housekeeping and dietary staff remain committed to organizing a union, and are currently seeking help from the community to reprove hospital management for their illegal and unethical behavior.
