Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers Partner Elected To California Healthcare Institute Board

LA JOLLA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 2, 2005--Dana G. Mead, Jr., partner, Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers (KPCB), was elected to the board of directors of California Healthcare Institute (CHI). CHI is a non-profit public policy research organization representing leading California academic institutions, biotechnology, medical device, and pharmaceutical firms. Mead, 46, joined KPCB as partner and member of the firm's life sciences team in May 2005. Previously, Mead was president of Guidant Vascular Intervention since March 2003. He joined Guidant in 1992 and held various positions of increasing responsibility, including vice president and general manager, Cardiac & Vascular Surgery Group; vice president and general manager, Stents, Vascular Intervention Group; president, Japan and Asia/Pacific; and vice president, corporate relations and policy. Prior to joining Guidant, Mead worked in various sales and marketing management roles with Johnson & Johnson and Allergan. He has a bachelor's degree from Lafayette College and a master of business administration degree from the University of Southern California.
