HOUSTON, Jan. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Healthlink Incorporated, a Houston-based, privately held, provider-focused healthcare information systems consulting firm, today announced that it has been selected as part of the Unisys team to provide worldwide training services for the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) Composite Health Care System II (CHCS II) initiative. The work will be performed under a DoD Systems Integration, Design, Development, Operations and Maintenance Services III (D/SIDDOMS III) contract. The value of the Healthlink subcontract is for approximately $18 million over four years for training of CHCS II worldwide, including the United States, Asia, Europe, and South America.
CHCS II is the DoD’s comprehensive dental and medical clinical information system that manages the healthcare information of military personnel across all branches of the service on a worldwide basis. The core capability of CHCS II is to generate and maintain a comprehensive, life-long, electronic medical record for each member of the military and to provide real-time, around-the- clock, secure access to this record at the point-of-care.
Healthlink was chosen by Unisys to assist the DoD in the training of healthcare personnel for implementation of Block I functionality of the system. Block I encompasses outpatient clinical documentation and supports encounter documentation, health history, order entry, and patient alerts.
Healthlink, which was recently ranked the number one firm in clinical implementation in the industry by KLAS Enterprises*, has distinguished itself with Prolink4(TM), its process-centered approach to IT strategy, system selection, implementation, and optimization. It will use the Training component of this methodology to develop a training program for implementation of the CHCS II system. This involves training providers, nurses, and other clinicians and administrative staff on how the system works, how the system changes their clinical and business practices, and how they can optimize these practices to maximize the value of the new system to enhance the delivery of care.
A major component of this activity includes assessing the workflow of each specific clinic at each Military Treatment Facility (MTF) prior to initiating training. Healthlink’s unique Promap4(TM) library of process maps will enable the comparison of generic workflows to the specific processes used at each MTF. This will ensure that the training developed is specific to each MTF and its clinics as well as role-based.
“We selected Healthlink to work with us because of their unique Prolink4 best practices training approach for implementing electronic medical records systems,” said Rick Rosenburg, managing partner, defense, Unisys U.S. Federal Government Group.
Healthlink became a subcontractor to Unisys last December under a 10-year D/SIDDOMS III contract. The organizations are also partners on a Veterans Affairs Global Information Technology Support Services (GITTS) contract.
“The Unisys award represents another important step in enhancing our presence in the federal sector,” said Ivo Nelson, CEO of Healthlink. “We are pleased to be able to apply the expertise we have gained in the private sector to such a significant project, and we are very pleased with our partnership with Unisys.”
Healthlink, which has been experiencing record growth, also signed a General Services Administration Schedule 70 contract in 2004, making it eligible to provide information technology services as a primary contractor to federal agencies on a worldwide basis.
