Focus Technologies And Bio-Inova Create Global Central Laboratory Capability

HERNDON, Va., Dec. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Today Focus Technologies announced that it has combined its US-based central laboratory business with France- based Bio-Inova to create global service capability for the pharmaceutical industry. The combined central laboratory businesses will operate under the name “Focus Bio-Inova” and are organized as subsidiaries of Focus Technologies, Inc. The new Focus Bio-Inova will have operations located in the metropolitan areas of Washington, D.C., Los Angeles, CA, and Paris, France. Partner labs are located in Australia, Canada, Israel, South Africa, and in the South American countries of Argentina, Brazil, Colombia and Mexico.

Central laboratory work involves the testing of specimens from patients participating in clinical trials to test the safety and efficacy of therapeutic agents. Centralized testing is important to insure that every specimen is tested the same. Multiple laboratories must be used for truly global studies because specimens cannot always be shipped to a single location in the world within the necessary timeframes. In such instances, the different laboratory locations must have equipment and testing methodologies that are harmonized and cross-validated so as to produce identical test results no matter where the testing is performed. Logistical expertise concerning the outbound shipment of test kits to investigator sites and the inbound shipment of specimens as well as sophisticated data management are also critical capabilities. Focus Bio-Inova provides all of these services as well as centralized ECG and imaging services in support of central laboratory projects.

“We are tremendously pleased to be joining forces with Bio-Inova,” comments Charles C. Harwood, Jr., CEO of Focus Technologies. “Both of our organizations are dedicated to leading-edge science, uncompromising quality, and highly responsive customer service.” “We think it is a terrific match of capabilities and philosophies,” says Dr. Pierre Braquet, CEO of Focus Bio- Inova Europe and co-founder of Bio-Inova, along with his wife Dr. Monique Braquet. “With this transaction our aim is to provide global central laboratory services for our customers that is in every way equal to the high standard of service that both Focus and Bio-Inova are providing to their customers today.”

Focus Technologies has served the healthcare community for 25 years as an innovative developer and provider of infectious disease testing services and diagnostic products.
