Dr. Samuel Weinstein Joins Specialtycare As Executive Vice President And Chief Medical Officer

NASHVILLE, Tenn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--SpecialtyCare®, a leading clinical services provider, announced today that Samuel Weinstein, MD, MBA, has joined the company as Executive Vice President and Chief Medical Officer. The appointment further strengthens SpecialtyCare’s growth-oriented leadership team.

Dr. Weinstein’s extensive clinical experience includes working as Director of Pediatric Cardiothoracic Surgery and Surgical Director of Cardiac Transplantation and Mechanical Assistance at The Children’s Hospital at Montefiore. He also served at Montefiore Medical Center as Surgical Director of the Adult Congenital Heart Surgery Program, Director of Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation for Adult and Pediatric Services, and Program Director of Thoracic Surgical Residency. Dr. Weinstein’s administrative contributions at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Montefiore Medical Center, included advisory work on perioperative care, ICU policies and procedures, organ transplantation, blood utilization, quality reviews, data management, medical leadership, and patient safety.

More about Samuel Weinstein, MD, MBA

Dr. Samuel Weinstein, MD, MBA, has more than 25 years of experience practicing medicine and holds active board certifications in Cardiothoracic Surgery, Congenital Cardiac Surgery, and Surgery. He is a member of the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, Extracorporeal Life Support Organization, and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.

Dr. Weinstein’s clinical areas of focus include congenital heart surgery, thoracic surgery, the use of interventional techniques and devices in minimally invasive surgery, cardiac mechanical assistance devices, cardiopulmonary bypass and perfusion, extracorporeal membrane oxygenation, adult congenital heart surgery, bloodless surgery, and chest wall deformities.

Prior to his appointment at Montefiore, Dr. Weinstein was on staff at the Ohio State Medical Center and Nationwide Children’s Hospital in the department of Cardiothoracic Surgery. Earlier in his career, he was on staff as a general surgeon for the Indian Health Service at the Chinle Comprehensive Health Care Facility in Arizona.

As a consultant for a variety of healthcare companies and institutions, Dr. Weinstein has focused on innovation in the management of cardiovascular care, patient referral patterns, infectious disease, breast cancer, nitric oxide, mechanical assistance devices, cardiopulmonary perfusion, diabetes, social media and medicine, and medical leadership.

As part of his philanthropic work, Dr. Weinstein is a Board Member and Surgical Director for Heart Care International, whose mission is teaching congenital cardiac surgical techniques and critical management to local physicians in economically challenged countries. To date, he has taken over 30 mission trips to Guatemala, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, and Peru.

Dr. Weinstein graduated cum laude with a BA in History from the University of Pennsylvania and received an MBA from Fordham University. He earned his MD degree at The State University of New York at Stony Brook and received postdoctoral training in surgery and cardiac surgery at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center in New York. He obtained additional training in pediatric cardiac surgery at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Dr. Weinstein is the author of more than 100 publications and presentations.
